SAMPALOK (TAMARIND)

SAMPALOK is the Tagalog word for “tamarind.”

In Philippine cuisine, tamarind is a popular souring agent for the iconic Filipino dish called sinigang.

Maasim = Sour

Tamarind fruits are also candied, then lightly coated with white rock salt or sugar. The candy itself is simply called sampalok.
