luya = ginger
dilaw = yellow
It is of course actually orange in color by modern standards.
Many Filipinos boil the “roots” and drink the juice like a tea. It is used for getting rid of intestinal worms. Less graphically, turmeric is considered effective in lowering cholesterol and even in fighting cancer.
