Melon Scraper

This kitchen utensil has been called Melon Stripper or Young Coconut Scraper / Grater / Baby Coconut Spooler.

You can use it to scoop out watermelon balls and cantaloupe strings for drinks. Even mango balls!

This special implement is needed because of the curved insides of the large fruit. And no other gadget can produce the strings in the ideal size.

It can also be used on the soft flesh of young coconuts (buko) and maybe even mature coconuts (niyog).

In the Philippines, it’s mostly for making noodle-like strings out of “melon” (cantaloupe) flesh.

Cut the cantaloupe in half with a knife.

To clean this nifty kitchen gadget, you may have to use a matchstick or toothpick to remove leftover flesh or residue from the inside surface of the metal spools.
