Philippine “Saffron” flowers
Filipino-American brand Tropics
As far as we know, this is not European saffron (scientific name: Crocus sativus).
This is KASUBHA (scientific name: Carthamus tinctorius), also widely known as safflower.
Packagers of Philippine ingredients have opted to label it “Saffron” in English.
The label says:
Ingredients: Dried stigmas of crocus flower (saffron)
[nutrition-label id=3633]Net weight: 10 grams or 0.35 ounces
Product of the Philippines
What to use kasubha for?
You can use it to give a yellowish tint to atchara (pickled papaya relish) or arroz caldo (chicken-flavored rice porridge).
