Speculation is that Thai agriculturists obtained the Milagrosa strain from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños (UPLB); the Thais then developed the Milagrosa rice plants back in their home country, and then their food industry and government marketed it effectively in the global markets.
