Most Filipinos are lactose intolerant and as such get stomachaches from American ice cream with “real milk.” The ice cream that Pinoys grew up eating in the Philippines is technically called “mellorine” by United States standards — it has lesser dairy content and less likely to give lactose-intolerant peole the indigestion.
Mellorine is also labeled “Ice Confection” or “Frozen Dessert” in other Western countries like Canada and Australia.
